Q: It seems like my lawn looks nicer when I run my mower at full throttle. Is it okay to run it ‘wide-open’ all of the time?
A: Absolutely–and in fact, you should! You are correct in observing that your cut quality is better when your mower operates at full throttle. Lawn equipment (including lawn mowers, lawn tractors, and even trimmers and blowers) is designed to run at full throttle to give the best performance. Your blade will turn faster at higher throttling, which is essential to proper cutting. Also, small engines often require a higher RPM to efficiently burn fuel, resulting in reduced carbon buildup and cleaner engines. If you feel like you want to slow down your cutting speed, go slower on the ground speed (lower gear, walk slower, etc.), but keep the engine at full throttle.
