Q: My self-propelled mower doesn’t pull as strong as it used to. What’s wrong and how can I fix it?
A: The drive system in most lawn mowers is driven by a belt and controlled by a cable, both of which can wear and stretch out, giving the feeling of a ‘weaker’ drive. Some mowers include an adjustment to pick up some of the slack from the stretched belt and/or cable. These are generally located near the place where the cable hooks up to the transmission. If that doesn’t work or it can’t be adjusted, it is probably time to replace the worn part.
