How To Keep Mice From Chewing Your Wiring Harness - Weingartz
← Back to Expert Advice

Is there anything I can do to keep the mice from chewing my wiring harness?

Q. I keep my riding tractor in a shed. For the last couple of years, a mouse got into the engine area and chewed up my wiring harness. Is there anything I can do to keep the mice from chewing my wiring harness?

A. Yes, we sell rodent deterrent tape supplied by Honda parts, part number 4019-2317. Repair the chewed-up harness, then wrap the rodent deterrent tape around the damaged area. The tape contains Capsaicin, the natural ingredient in chili peppers that makes them hot. Capsaicin is also the active ingredient in pepper spray used by law enforcement.  The tape is odorless and should deter any future problems in that area.

  1. We use dryer sheets like Bounce. They keep the critters away. We have used them in our campers, on ATVs, on motorcycles and our old cars that we store for the winter months. Good luck!.
