5 Reasons To Use Pre-Mixed Fuel With 2-Stroke Engines

If you own any two-stroke, air cooled equipment, you know how important fuel is to the longevity of your machine. Mixing the correct ratio of fresh gas and oil can have a large impact not only on immediate performance, but also on the internal wear and tear of your engine. Fortunately, many reputable manufacturers such as RedMax, STIHL, and ECHO have formulated their own premium, pre-mixed fuel, so you can rest easy when caring for your beloved equipment. To learn more about how pre-mixed fuel can benefit you and your two-stroke engine, read our list of benefits below.

1. Pre-Mixed Fuel Is Designed For Optimal Performance

With just the right amounts of premium fuel, oil, and additives, pre-mixed fuel is designed to help you get the most out of your two-stroke equipment. This means reliable starting, enhanced throttle response, better lubrication, and overall exceptional performance.

2. Pre-Mixed Fuel Burns Cleaner

Premium fuel is not only better for your equipment—it’s better for the environment, too. High-octane gas and high-quality, synthetic oil are odor-free and burn cleanly, so you can operate your two-stroke equipment worry-free.

3. Pre-Mixed Fuel Protects Against Buildup

When shopping for pre-mixed fuel, choose a high-octane, ethanol-free product for best results. This will help prevent gum-like deposits from building up in your engine, which are often caused when ethanol from pump gas breaks down and separates over time.

4. Pre-Mixed Fuel Saves Time

While it may be an obvious incentive, pre-mixed fuel is a huge time-saver. Cut down on trips to the gas pump and order fuel online, or grab a can of pre-mixed fuel the next time you’re shopping your local Weingartz store. Plus, your pre-mixed fuel is ready to use, so you’ll save time by not having to measure the precise ratio of gasoline to oil on your own.

5. Pre-Mixed Fuel Is Long-Lasting

When properly sealed, an unopened container of pre-mixed fuel will stay fresh up to three years, while an open container can last up to two years (check individual brand specs for specific time estimates). This is particularly valuable for homeowners who might not use equipment as frequently as landscapers, since gas tends to sit on shelves or in engines for a while when not in use. *Note: We recommend that you always drain your fuel tank at the end of each season or use a fuel stabilizer for long periods of inactivity (find out why here).

  1. The octane of the fuel has nothing to do with how clean it burns. If the engine is not designed to run on the higher octane it is a 100% waste.

    • Hi, Jason:

Thank you for your comment. All two-stroke brands carried at Weingartz (RedMax, ECHO, STIHL, Shindaiwa) are designed to run on 89 octane or higher fuel. While it is not necessary to use an octane of 92 or higher, these reputable manufacturers have created pre-mix options that range from 92 to 95 in order to best serve your equipment. It is important to note that anything less than 89 octane could result in significant equipment damage over time. Hope this clarification helps!
