If your Cub Cadet zero turn rider is having trouble starting, there’s a good chance that the spark plugs are the issue. Spark plugs that are in good condition will ensure that your mower has less trouble starting. When your mower starts easily, you’ll see less engine wear, lower exhaust emissions, and improved fuel efficiency. We suggest changing your spark plugs every spring. Here’s how to change the spark plugs on a Cub Cadet zero turn rider.
Before performing any maintenance on your Cub Cadet zero turn, refer to your owner’s manual for maintenance instructions and safety information. Maintenance instructions vary by model, so depending on your lawn mower model our instructions may vary slightly.
To begin, place your mower on a flat, level surface. Turn the mower off, remove the ignition key and engage the parking brake. This helps ensure your mower doesn’t start accidentally and cause you or those around you harm.
Unplug the spark plug wires from the spark plugs and remove both old spark plugs with a 5/8-inch spark plug socket.
Properly gap your new spark plugs usinga specialized gap tool or a set of feeler gauges to adjust the gap between the electrodes to the appropriate distance. Refer to your owner’s manual for appropriate gap.
Reinstall the new spark plugs. Do not overtighten the spark plugs. Reconnect the spark plug wires.
