Grass Collection Systems

Let’s talk about grass collection systems, or baggers. We’ve got a few different options available, and we’ll walk through some of the different features and benefits.

Zero Turn Riders

Different zero turn riders have different grass collection systems, but all of them will have a front counterweight.  A counterweight’s role is to add weight to the front end of your machine. As your bag is filling up you have more weight in the back, making the front-end lighter which makes for an unsafe condition. Thus, the counterweight is extremely important.

These weights are very easy to take on and off. All counterweights are quick detach and some have pins or a couple bolts so you can take that weight off when you’re not using the bagger.

Zero turn riders require counterweight because there is more weight on the rear of the machine due to the engine, versus lawn tractors which have more weight on the front. Like the weights, baggers are very easy to take on and off as well.

Cub Cadet two bag systems have a flip up and some have a nice little site door so you can look from the driver’s seat to see if it’s full. The bags will slide out very easily when it’s time for dumping them.

Depending on the unit, the mower can have a two-bag or three-bag system. The three-bag system is typically found on your larger mower decks. The larger mower decks have more capacity so the two-bag system will fill up quicker, so typically on the 48 inch or larger decks you’ll see a three-bag system to pick up 50% more capacity. Cub Cadet offers three bag systems on their larger decks.

Most brands will have two or three bag configurations.

All mowers discussed will feature counterweights, and easy on and off baggers, including Toro zero turn riders. Toro mowers use a weight system with twin bagger systems.

Lawn Tractors

Like zero turns, different tractors have different baggers.

Cub Cadet tractors support two bag systems, which are very similar to what you’d find on the 42-inch zero turn model, and three bag systems. For doing your fall cleanups, baggers are a great tool and save a lot of time and effort.

Something relatively new from Cub Cadet is a 25-bushel capacity so, depending on the model, in comparison to the 23 bag, this will give you a 2 ½ to 3 ½ times the capacity of typical grass collection systems. This is really designed more for that leaf cleanup so if you’re picking up leaves, those bags will fill up fairly quick. This is a much higher capacity and what’s nice is it just attaches to the Cub Cadet cart. However, this will also fit some of the other popular brand carts like carts made from Ohio Steel or Brinley Hardy company.

You can buy the cart, or you can buy a cart with the bagger and have a dump cart to use you know for doing other yard tasks. You can easily remove the top and have a conventional dump cart. So, for doing those bigger jobs you get the bigger capacity and then you also have a dump cart so it’s another great nice tool from Cub Cadet.
