How To Remove and Reconnect a Boss Plow

Before performing any maintenance on your machine, refer to your owner’s manual for recommended maintenance and safety information. Maintenance instructions vary by model, so depending on your riding lawn mower model our instructions may vary slightly. Check your owner’s manual to get instructions specific to your model.

Let’s discuss the nine foot two stainless DXT plow to give you a sense of how to take the plow off and put it back on, go over those steps with you step by step and ultimately give you a good idea of how to do this if you are an end user at home, at the shop, or on site and need a little bit more information on that.

First, take that truck and make sure it is in the on and running position. It keeps the engine going, makes that battery run at full power and allows you to control the plow without worrying about draining the battery, especially in colder temps.

Turn your controller to the on position and then, both on a straight and a V blade plow, that center button for up down, double tap that to put it into float mode. It is going to illuminate that button to red and let you know that you’re ready to go to the front of the truck and do the plow disconnect.

On all Boss plows, V or straight blade, the smart hitch system is identical. The first step on the outside of the truck is to take those levers and flip them both to the outside. Occasionally you get that pin to pop out automatically. Do the same thing on the driver’s side.

Once both levers are flipped out, take the hydraulic control lever on the outside, go up first to release tension on that pin. It will naturally pop out because it is under spring tension and then go down with the hydraulics to lower that light beam. At that point you are ready to do the disconnect on the electronics.

On your wiring, you’ve got a 13-pin plow and truck harness as well as your power ground. Shake those loose and disconnect them and then each one will have its own set of dust caps to keep any debris and dirt out. Same thing with the 13-pin harness. Wiggle that one loose, cap this one and then that will set you free from the plow itself.

The truck side harness also has matching caps so cap this, especially for the road driving, and then at that point you can back the truck away and go about your business without the plow.

When reconnecting the plow to the truck it is just the opposite of disconnecting it. The truck will be on because you’ve driven into that plow. The controller should be plugged in, on, and in-float mode just like it was to take the plow off so make sure that center button is red and illuminated. Hop out of that truck and then make some connections in the front.

First thing would be your power ground and your 13 pin. Get all those nice and secure so that everything is flowing to the plow and then your next step would be those locking pins. You are going to flip these couplers to the inside now, which is going to allow this to lock in when you override it with the hydraulics on the front.

With that hydraulic lever pushed up those pins will pop and lock everything into that undercarriage and allow you to safely back away with that plow in the upright position and go to work.
