How To Change the Spark Plug on a Cub Cadet XT1 Tractor

The more worn or dirty spark plugs are, the more effort is required to produce an adequate spark. Luckily, spark plugs are pretty easy and inexpensive to replace. For standard lawn mower and small engine maintenance, you should check spark plugs annually and in accordance with your owner’s manual, and or if your lawn mower won’t start.

Before performing any maintenance on your Cub Cadet XT1 tractor , refer to your owner’s manual for recommended maintenance and safety information. Maintenance instructions vary by model, so depending on your tractor model our instructions may vary slightly. Check your owner’s manual to get instructions specific to your model.

Parking your Cub Cadet tractor on a flat, level surface. Turn the engine off and allow it to cool. Remove the ignition key, disconnect the spark plug ignition wire to prevent accidental starting, and engage the parking brake.

Here’s how to change the spark plug on a Cub Cadet XT1 tractor with the Kohler engine. We are going to be using a champion spark plug in this engine. On this, they do recommend 0.28 of a gap, so check that your gap I good.

Firmly grasp the spark plug boot and pull, then move it to the side. Use a 5/8 spark plug socket to remove the spark plug. Reinstall the new spark plug.

Tighten it down until it’s tight. Once tight, give it a quarter turn more for proper torque. Reinstall the spark plug boot and test for operation.
