How To Change the Oil on an Exmark Radius E Series Zero Turn Rider

Our Weingartz experts explain how to change the oil on your Exmark Radius E Series zero turn rider.

Before performing any maintenance on your machine, refer to your owner’s manual for maintenance instructions and safety information. Maintenance instructions vary by model, so depending on your lawn mower model our instructions may vary slightly.

Park your mower on a flat, level surface. Turn the engine off and allow it to cool. Remove the ignition key and disconnect the spark plug ignition wire to prevent accidental starting. Engage the parking brake.

To carry out this task, you’ll need

In order to drain the oil on your Exmark Radius E, you don’t have to use any tools to take the oil drain out, it just pulls out by itself. It’s stuck inside the cover.

We will use Exmark engine oil filter and Exmark engine oil, SAE 30 and SAE 10w30. This is a synthetic blend which Exmark recommends in their engines.

Pull the oil drain plug out. Twist and then pull down. If you pull straight down, you’ll end up breaking the cover and pulling the plug out with it so pull the hose out of the holder, twist and then pull out. Turn the oil drain down into the drain pan and then loosen the oil cap.

While the oil is draining, take some rags and stick them underneath the oil filter and use the oil filter wrench to remove the oil filter.

Once the oil filter has been removed, stick it in the drain pan. Allow everything to drain before you start installing new parts. After about 5 to 10 minutes, your machine should be ready for more maintenance.

Reinstall the oil filter or replace with a new one if necessary. Before you put this oil filter on your machine make sure you fill it up about halfway first and then you put some oil on the o-ring of that filter. You can use your finger to lightly put a little bit of oil on the o-ring of that filter, then go ahead and reinstall it. When reinstalling an oil filter you don’t want to use any type of mechanical tools to re-tension that back down, just a good snug hand tight is all it needs.

Use your rags to clean up any mess you’ve got laying around. Then reinstall the oil drain tube. There are two little brackets that hold that tube on the side of the engine housing. Reinstall that and then plug it back into the air filter housing.

Now use the three quarts of oil and refill the engine. When you get halfway down on the third quart of oil, start checking the oil level. Exmark oil has a blue dye to it which makes it a lot easier to check the oil. Once the oil is full, start the engine, let it run for a minute or two, let that oil circulate and then recheck the oil level.

Once we’ve ran the engine and allowed the oil filter to fill up, recheck to make sure that your oil is still right up on top. If your oil is at the full mark, you’re work here is done.
