Echo Bear Cat Chipper Shredders

Echo Bear Cat makes a wide range of chipper shredders for all different types of applications but what’s nice with all their units, they’re still built at a much higher level than what you’ll see a lot of chipper shredders. You’ll see heavier frames, nice heavy greaseable bearings supporting the rotor, as well as more powerful engines than what you’ll see in most units.

What really makes these machines perform much better than comparable models in their size is their rotor. One of their smaller machines has a 22-pound rotor so depending on the model, they get up to 40 pounds and heavier. A lot of machines will use just a stamped piece of metal, so you don’t have the momentum to chip and that’s a big part of chipping. So horsepower is important but you need that momentum from the weight of the rotor to really do an effective job chipping.

The other thing you’ll see on the rotor is chipper knifes that are reversible so once one side wears you can flip them over and use the other side. All machines use a two chipping knife system versus one so it’s a smoother chipping effect than the one bladed system, and handle the shredding there are serrated free-swinging knives. The serrated edge does a better job cleaning than a non-serrated edge. The rotor is equipped with swinging hammers so if you hit something solid it just flings without doing any damage to the unit itself.

With all these units, they have the chipper and then your shredder feeding the shredder knives, so this would be for your debris, your leaves, garden waste, those kinds of things that you want to shred and then the chipping would be for your wood pieces and things of that nature.

The rotor assembly is just an over center pulley, very simple but effective. When you release it, it makes the engine easier to start because there’s no load on the engine. They do offer tow hitch assemblies for the push unit so if you want to tow it out to your site with your lawn tractor or zero turn mower that’s an option, and then some large units have full trailer assemblies.

The three-point chippers will mount to your category one three-point hitch. The larger units are built just like the smaller units but more shredding knives, larger heavier flywheel, and will handle the volume of debris quicker because you have more power with a tractor mounted unit. Echo Bear Cat chipper shredders come standard with their larger hole design to handle your debris.

If you want your debris smaller or ground up finer, there is an option for smaller holes but if you use a smaller hole and if you get into something that’s very wet it’s going to plug up. There is also a coarser design with an elongated hole if you get into that stringy substance where you’re not worried about shredding material as fine.

Echo Bear Cat has been around a long time, offering excellent chipper shredders for somebody who’s looking for something a little better than your base units.
