Everybody knows Stihl saws have been around forever. They’ve been the industry leader for decades and you always hear stories about the old Wood Boss that’s 20 to 30 years old. What’s important to know about Stihl is they do have a saw for all applications. There’s a wide range of chainsaw models.
For an occasional user, they don’t need to invest five or six hundred dollars on a saw. A little MS 170 starts at $179. It’s a great little saw, but what’s nice is you still get the Stihl quality and performance and safety and durability.
They have a full range of models in-between that and their big bad boy, the MS 180. For those serious cutters, you need to have some big trees for this one. But there again, if there’s an application for it, they have a saw.
It’s really a matter of talking to the dealership. Stop on in and we can show you all the different models and find the right saw that’s best for you. It’s also important to consider when you’re out there cutting to make sure you have things like a spare chain. If you do dollop your chain you’ve got one so you can keep cutting.
It’s also whether you have a file or bring them in and have professionally sharpened. A sharp chain is important. It doesn’t matter the quality of the saw, the chain is what’s doing the work for you. Also, accessories like a carrying case for storage and to help protect the saw are worth investing in.
Also take a look at all your safety apparel. Things like protective helmets to protect your eyes and a helmet which includes ear protection. Chaps is another very important item. If you have a kickback, the chaps will help protect from having any injury.
It’s a matter of looking at all the different models, finding the saw that’s best for your application and making sure you have the accessories and safety apparel to get the job done correctly.
