It can mean the difference between operating your home without interruption or going days without power. Avoid being stuck without lights, charging stations, and appliances by keeping a generator nearby for surprise outages. it&#8217;s not enough, however, to just have the right generator handy when a power outage occurs. You need to make sure your machine receives regular maintenance so it can continue to power through any challenge. Here&#8217;s how to change the oil in your Honda <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/honda\/honda-generators\">generator<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/a8m81HReLtI\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Before performing any repair or maintenance on a generator, turn the fuel valve on top of the fuel cap to off. This prevents any spilling, any leakage, or fire if the machine spills oil when it is tipped over.<\/p>\n<p>To carry out this task, you\u2019ll need:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Flathead screwdriver<\/li>\n<li>Oil drain pan<\/li>\n<li>Rag<\/li>\n<li>Quart of <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/\/searchPage.action?keyWord=honda%2010w30\">Honda\u2019s 10w30<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To change the oil in a <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/C\/123987\/Generators\">Honda generator<\/a>, run the generator to an operating temperature in order to ensure that everything drains properly. Running the machine also allows you to get a faster drain when you\u2019re draining the oil.<\/p>\n<p>Use the flathead screwdriver to remove the access panel on the side of the generator and gain access the oil. In the bottom left hand corner, you will see a cap, which also acts as an oil dipstick, oil fill, and oil drain.<\/p>\n<p>To drain the oil from the <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/C\/123987\/Generators\">generator<\/a>, remove that cap. Tip the machine\u00a0on its side and let the oil flow out into a drain pan. Once it\u2019s done draining, tip the machine back upright and use your rag to clean up any excess oil that spilled on the housing.<\/p>\n<p>Refill the generator with <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/\/searchPage.action?keyWord=honda%2010w30\">Honda 10w30<\/a>. It is recommended to use 13.58 ounces to fill the machine or to add oil\u00a0up to the very top level of the threads. Once you fill the machine to the proper level, push the dipstick in until it\u2019s at the threads and pull it back out to see where the oil level is on the stick. Once you have the right oil level, screw the cap back into the threads. Again, use you rag and make sure any excess oil is cleaned off the generator before you put that access cover back on.<\/p>\n<p>Put the access panel back on the side of the <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/C\/123987\/Generators\">generator<\/a>. Turn the machine on, turn the choke all the way to the on position, and turn the fuel valve back on. Start the generator and let it warm up for 10 to 15 seconds and then take the choke off. You\u2019ll notice a green light on the front of the generator, which indicates that the generator is making voltage.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/honda\/honda-generators\">generator <\/a>is equipped with a low oil alert so if you ever run the machine low on oil it will shut itself down to save the engine.
