A <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/expert-advice\/2017\/05\/mulching-tips-for-may\/\">mulch <\/a>kit changes this process by changing the standard mower <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/124043\/Category\/Blades\">blades <\/a>to operate as a mulcher. Mulch <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/124043\/Category\/Blades\">blades <\/a>chop grass clippings into smaller pieces than the standard blades. The smaller pieces decompose faster and help return nutrients back into the soil, keeping your grass healthy. Mulch kits generally include mulching <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/124043\/Category\/Blades\">blades <\/a>and a mulching plug, along with necessary hardware for installation.<\/p>\n<p>Before performing any maintenance on your tractor, refer to your operator&#8217;s manual\u00a0for\u00a0recommended maintenance, safety information, and instructions for your machine.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/expert-advice\/2017\/05\/mulching-tips-for-may\/\">Mulch\u00a0<\/a>kits and mulch kit installations will vary with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/C\/124031\/Tractors\">tractor\u00a0<\/a>models, so depending on your\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.deere.com\/en\/\">tractor <\/a>model number our instructions may vary slightly.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s how to install a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/expert-advice\/2017\/05\/mulching-tips-for-may\/\">mulch\u00a0<\/a>kit to use your\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cubcadet.com\/equipment\/cubcadet\">tractor\u00a0<\/a>as a mulcher.<\/p>\n<p>Before performing any repair or maintenance on your mower, please follow these safety precautions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Read your owner&#8217;s manual for all safety and installation instructions<\/li>\n<li>Park your\u00a0tractor on a hard, flat surface<\/li>\n<li>Shut off the engine and allow it to cool<\/li>\n<li>Set the parking brake<\/li>\n<li>Remove the key from the ignition to prevent accidental starting<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To carry out this task, you\u2019ll need:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mulch kit<\/li>\n<li>Block\u00a0of wood<\/li>\n<li>Jack<\/li>\n<li>Piece of cardboard<\/li>\n<li>Wrench<\/li>\n<li>Heavy duty gloves (cutting blades are sharp \u2013 always wear gloves when working with blades)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To install a mulch kit on a <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/C\/124031\/Tractors\">tractor<\/a>, begin by removing the mower <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/124043\/Category\/Blades\">blades<\/a>. You can do this one of two ways \u2013 raise the mower deck to remove the blades or remove the deck to remove the blades.<\/p>\n<p>Use a Jungle Jack or other form of jack to lift the front\u00a0of your mower to create space under the mower deck. Use your wrench to remove the center nut from the mower <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/124043\/Category\/Blades\">blade<\/a>. Use a gloved hand to keep the blade from turning while removing the nut. Keep the blade nuts for the installation of the new blades. Remove the nut and mower <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/124043\/Category\/Blades\">blade <\/a>on the other side of the deck.<\/p>\n<p>Remove the cutting deck from beneath the <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/C\/124031\/Tractors\">tractor <\/a>as instructed in your owner\u2019s manual. Put down a piece of cardboard to protect the deck and flip the deck over on top of the cardboard to access the underside.Place a block of wood between the deck housing baffle and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/124043\/Category\/Blades\">blade\u00a0<\/a>to keep the blade in place while removing the nut. Use your wrench to remove the nut that secures the mower blades. Keep the <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/124043\/Category\/Blades\">blade <\/a>nuts for the installation of the new blades. Remove the nut and mower <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/124043\/Category\/Blades\">blade <\/a>on the other side of the deck.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/LvSxWu-_jeU\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Now that the old <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/124043\/Category\/Blades\">blades <\/a>have been removed, it\u2019s time to replace them with the new blades included in the <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/expert-advice\/2017\/05\/mulching-tips-for-may\/\">mulch <\/a>kit. Install the blades with the side marked &#8220;bottom&#8221; or with the part number on it facing the ground when the <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/C\/124031\/Tractors\">tractor <\/a>is in the operating position.\u00a0 Place the center hole of the <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/124043\/Category\/Blades\">blade<\/a> over the mounting stud on the underside of the mower deck. Use your gloved hand to hold the blade in place while tightening the blade nut with your wrench. Install the <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/124043\/Category\/Blades\">blade <\/a>on the other side of the deck as well.<\/p>\n<p>If you removed the mower deck to replace the <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/124043\/Category\/Blades\">blades<\/a>, flip the deck back to the upright position to install the mulch plug.<\/p>\n<p>To install the <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/expert-advice\/2017\/05\/mulching-tips-for-may\/\">mulch <\/a>plug on your <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/C\/124031\/Tractors\">tractor<\/a>, lift the discharge chute up. Insert the mulch plug into the deck discharge chute opening by putting the bolt on the rear side of the mulch plug into the hole in the deck.\u00a0 Twist the mulch plug into place.\u00a0 Pull and stretch the retaining plug on the <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/expert-advice\/2017\/05\/mulching-tips-for-may\/\">mulch <\/a>plug over the deck wheel bracket and hook it under the bottom of the bracket.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">If you removed the mower deck to replace the <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/124043\/Category\/Blades\">blades<\/a>, slide the deck back under the <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/C\/124031\/Tractors\">tractor <\/a>and reattach the deck as instructed in your owner\u2019s manual.
