Your zero turn rider is designed for heavy duty cutting tasks. The hard work your mower <\/a>is exposed to requires regular maintenance to ensure a long and reliable service life. Part of this maintenance includes greasing the wheel bearings<\/a> on the front of your mower<\/a>. This maintenance is easy to forget but it\u2019s important. You should lubricate the bearings <\/a>one to two times each mowing season to protect them from wear and keep them spinning smoothly. \u00a0Here\u2019s how to grease <\/a>the wheel bearings<\/a> on your zero turn rider.<\/p>\n

You\u2019ll need a grease gun and grease <\/a>for your zero turn mower<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Before performing any maintenance on your lawn mower<\/a>, refer to your owner\u2019s manual for maintenance instructions and safety information.<\/p>\n

Park your lawn mower <\/a>on a level surface, stop the engine, and remove the ignition key. Move to the front of your mower <\/a>and locate the grease fittings on the outside hub of the caster wheels. These fittings, also referred to as zerks, make it easy to apply grease <\/a>to the wheels internal bearings<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Start by cleaning the fitting on the wheels with a rag. Remove any grass, dirt or debris that could interfere with greasing the wheel bearings<\/a>. Make sure the spring-loaded bearing ball inside the inlet is visible and free to move.<\/p>\n

Attach the nozzle on the end of the grease gun to the fitting on one of the caster wheels. Pump grease <\/a>into the fitting until you see a little bit of grease <\/a>ooze out of the wheel bearing<\/a>. Use your rag to wipe away excess grease <\/a>that oozes out to prevent the accumulation of dirt and debris. Move to the other front wheel and grease <\/a>the wheel bearing<\/a>. When complete, again wipe excess grease with a rag.<\/p>\n

You may never think about it, but the caster wheels in the front of your zero turn riders undergo a real workout, which means they need to undergo maintenance as well. Don\u2019t forget to factor your wheel bearings<\/a> into your lawn mower maintenance checklist. No matter how small it may seem, performing maintenance on your wheel bearings<\/a> plays a huge role in the performance of your equipment<\/a>.<\/p>\n
