When spark plugs go bad, mowing your lawn becomes a challenge. For example, faulty spark plugs make your tractor difficult to start or cause your engine to die out quickly. Change the spark plug on your <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/124031\/Category\/Tractors\">lawn tractor <\/a>regularly to keep your mower up and running throughout the whole season.<\/p>\n<p>Before performing any maintenance on your lawn tractor, refer to your owner\u2019s manual for maintenance instructions and safety information. Maintenance instructions vary by model, so depending on your lawn mower model our instructions may vary slightly.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/3kycQgpesZ8\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Before changing the <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/124065\/Category\/Spark-Plugs\">spark plug <\/a>on your mower, please abide by these safety precautions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Shut off the engine<\/li>\n<li>Allow the engine to become cool to the touch<\/li>\n<li>Disconnect the spark plug wire to prevent accidental starting<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To carry out this task, you\u2019ll need these tools:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>5\/8 deep well socket<\/li>\n<li>Wrench<\/li>\n<li>Extension<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To change the <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/124065\/Category\/Spark-Plugs\">spark plug <\/a>on your <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/124031\/Category\/Tractors\">lawn tractor<\/a>, locate the spark plug on the side of the engine. Some tractor models have single-cylinder engines (with one <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/124065\/Category\/Spark-Plugs\">spark plug<\/a>) while others have twin-cylinder engines (with 2 <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/124065\/Category\/Spark-Plugs\">spark plugs<\/a>). Use your socket to loosen the spark plug. Loosen it and grab the <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/124065\/Category\/Spark-Plugs\">spark plug <\/a>on the end, and give it a couple more turns.<\/p>\n<p>Install the new <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/124065\/Category\/Spark-Plugs\">spark plug<\/a>. Replace the old spark plug with a manufacturer approved replacement part (refer to your owner\u2019s manual). Hold the <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/124065\/Category\/Spark-Plugs\">spark plug <\/a>on the end and stick it into the proper hole on the <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/124031\/Category\/Tractors\">tractor<\/a>. Turn the <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/124065\/Category\/Spark-Plugs\">spark plug <\/a>to the left to make sure that it is starting to thread in properly, but turn it to the right to tighten it.<\/p>\n<p>Tighten the <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/124065\/Category\/Spark-Plugs\">spark plug <\/a>by hand. By doing this, you can tell if the threads are going in correctly and won\u2019t strip the threads out of the head of the engine. Tighten as much as you can and then put your socket back on the <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/124065\/Category\/Spark-Plugs\">spark plug <\/a>to tighten it all the way down. Give it an extra snug turn.<\/p>\n<p>If you are working with a twin-cylinder engine, repeat the same steps to change the <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/124065\/Category\/Spark-Plugs\">spark plug <\/a>on the other side of the machine. Once the <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/124065\/Category\/Spark-Plugs\">spark plugs <\/a>have been changed, reconnect the spark plug wire.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll notice your engine running less smoothly if it has a broken or fouled <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/124065\/Category\/Spark-Plugs\">spark plug<\/a>.
