If your Toro lawn mower<\/a> won\u2019t start, a damaged spark plug<\/a> may be the problem. If your spark plug is bogged down by debris, or worn out, it won’t generate the spark needed to start your mower\u2019s engine. A bad spark plug<\/a> can also reduce the performance and fuel economy of your mower. To keep your Toro lawn mower<\/a> running efficiently, check your spark plugs<\/a> for wear and tear regularly and change them when necessary.<\/p>\n

Before performing any maintenance on your Toro lawn mower<\/a>, refer to your owner\u2019s manual for maintenance instructions and safety information. Maintenance instructions vary by model, so depending on your lawn mower model our instructions may vary slightly.<\/p>\n

To begin, disconnect the spark plug wire and clean the area around the spark plug<\/a>, removing any dirt or debris. Remove the old spark plug<\/a> using a socket wrench or spark plug wrench.<\/p>\n

Check the gap on your new spark plug<\/a>. Use a specialized gap tool or a set of feeler gauges to adjust the gap between the electrodes to the appropriate distance. Refer to your owner\u2019s manual for appropriate gap.<\/p>\n

Screw the new spark plug<\/a> in by hand. If you use a ratchet, you run the risk of cross threading, which will cause the need for replacement of the entire head of the engine.<\/p>\n

Once the new spark plug<\/a> is finger tight, use a wrench to tighten the plug as specified in your owner\u2019s manual. Do not overtighten because you can cause damage to your engine.<\/p>\n

Reconnect the spark plug ignition wire and you\u2019re done.<\/p>\n

Your Toro lawn mower<\/a> requires regular maintenance from oil changes to fresh spark plugs<\/a>. Spark plugs corrode over time so make sure you stay on top of maintenance to keep your mower working properly.<\/p>\n
