If your Toro lawn mower<\/a> is moving slower than usual or not moving at all, you may need to change the drive belt<\/a>. Over time the drive belt can get damaged or broken, causing your mower to lose speed or stop mowing so here\u2019s how to replace a drive belt<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Before performing any maintenance on your lawn mower<\/a>, refer to your owner\u2019s manual for maintenance instructions and safety information. Maintenance instructions vary by model, so depending on your lawn mower model our instructions may vary slightly.<\/p>\n

As we mentioned, maintenance instructions vary by model. There are a few different Toro lawn mower models<\/a>. Rear wheel drive models have a drive belt<\/a> that runs to the rear of the machine. Front wheel drive models have a drive belt<\/a> that\u2019s connected to the front of the mower.<\/p>\n

Change a rear wheel drive belt<\/strong><\/p>\n

Drain your gas tank and disconnect the spark plug wire to prevent accidental starting.<\/p>\n

Remove the rear baffle and belt cover, which is held by screws on the top and sides of the deck. Remove the screws before laying the machine on its side. Tip the mower <\/a>over but keep the air filter side up to prevent the oil from going into the air filter and carburetor.<\/p>\n

Remove the screw on the rear baffle and take off the baffle and belt cover. Different machines have different parts so remove any pieces you need to get access to the drive belt<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Remove the blade bolt and take off the blade and blade driver. Always wear gloves when working with blades.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Disconnect the traction cable spring from the transmission, located on the rear axle. Rotate the transmission so you can access the belt guide and remove the belt guide and take off the drive belt<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Install the new drive belt<\/a>. Slip the belt over the transmission pulley and put everything back together.<\/p>\n

Change a front wheel drive belt <\/strong><\/p>\n

Drain your gas tank before you begin. Disconnect spark plug wire to prevent accidental starting.<\/p>\n

Tip the mower <\/a>on its side but keep the air filter side up to prevent the oil from going into the air filter and carburetor.<\/p>\n

Remove the screws and take off the belt cover. Move the transmission bracket, disconnect the traction cable spring, and remove the screws that hold the bracket.<\/p>\n

Unthread the old drive belt<\/a> from the transmission pulley. Remove the blade and take off the old drive belt. Always wear gloves when working with blades.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Different machines have different parts so remove any parts you need to get access to the old drive belt<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Install the new drive belt<\/a> and put everything back together.<\/p>\n
