Echo Bear Cat\u00a0makes a wide range of chipper shredders<\/a> for\u00a0all different types of applications but what’s nice with all their units,\u00a0they’re still built at a much higher level than\u00a0what you’ll see a lot of chipper shredders.\u00a0You\u2019ll see heavier frames,\u00a0nice heavy greaseable bearings supporting the rotor, as well as more powerful\u00a0engines than what you’ll see in most units.<\/p>\n

What really makes these machines perform much\u00a0better than comparable models <\/a>in their size\u00a0is their rotor. One of their smaller\u00a0machines has a 22-pound rotor so depending on the model<\/a>, they get up to 40 pounds and heavier. A lot of machines\u00a0will use just a stamped piece of metal, so\u00a0you don’t have the momentum to chip and\u00a0that’s a big part of chipping. So horsepower\u00a0is important but you need that momentum\u00a0from the weight of the rotor to really do an\u00a0effective job chipping.<\/p>\n

The other thing you’ll see on the rotor is chipper knifes that are reversible\u00a0so once one side wears you can flip them over and\u00a0use the other side. All machines <\/a>use a two chipping\u00a0knife system versus one so it’s a smoother\u00a0chipping effect than the one bladed system,\u00a0and handle the shredding there are serrated\u00a0free-swinging knives. The serrated edge\u00a0does a better job cleaning than a non-serrated\u00a0edge. The rotor is equipped with swinging hammers so if you hit something solid it just flings without doing any\u00a0damage to the unit itself.<\/p>\n

With all these units,\u00a0they have the chipper and then your shredder\u00a0feeding the shredder knives, so this would be\u00a0for your debris, your leaves, garden waste,\u00a0those kinds of things that you want to shred and\u00a0then the chipping would be for your\u00a0wood pieces and things of that nature.<\/p>\n

The rotor assembly is just an over center pulley,\u00a0very simple but effective. When you release it,\u00a0it makes the engine easier to start\u00a0because there’s no load on the engine. They do offer tow hitch assemblies\u00a0for the push unit so if you want to tow it out\u00a0to your site with your lawn tractor or zero\u00a0turn mower that’s an option, and then some large\u00a0units have full trailer assemblies.<\/p>\n

The three-point\u00a0chippers <\/a>will mount to your category\u00a0one three-point hitch. The larger units are built\u00a0just like the smaller units but more shredding\u00a0knives, larger heavier flywheel, and will\u00a0handle the volume of debris quicker because\u00a0you have more power with a tractor\u00a0mounted unit. If you want your debris smaller or ground up finer, there is an option for smaller holes\u00a0but if you use a smaller hole\u00a0and if you get into something that’s very wet\u00a0it’s going to plug up. There is also a coarser design with an elongated\u00a0hole if you get into that stringy substance\u00a0where you’re not worried about shredding\u00a0material as fine.<\/p>\n
