A properly functioning air filter<\/a> will protect your Cub Cadet from dirt and debris kicked up during mowing. When the air filter is working properly, it prevents dirt from entering the engine through the carburetor. Here\u2019s how to change the air filter on a Cub Cadet XT1 lawn tractor<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Before performing any maintenance on your Cub Cadet XT1<\/a>, refer to your owner\u2019s manual for recommended maintenance and safety information. Maintenance instructions vary by model, so depending on your tractor model our instructions may vary slightly. Check your owner\u2019s manual to get instructions specific to your model.<\/p>\n

Parking your Cub Cadet on a flat, level surface. Turn the engine off and allow it to cool. Remove the ignition key, disconnect the spark plug ignition wire to prevent accidental starting, and engage the parking brake.<\/p>\n

When changing the air filter<\/a> on the Cub Cadet XT1<\/a> with the Kohler engine, begin by removing the\u00a0hood so you can access the air filter. There are two yellow screws on\u00a0the top cover, it says lock<\/em> and unlock<\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0To remove the engine cover, turn\u00a0the screws counterclockwise to unlock<\/em> and lift to remove.<\/p>\n

To remove the air filter<\/a>, you need to pull up on\u00a0the front of the filter, towards the front of the engine, to unlock and then pull out. Remove and\u00a0clean any debris that might be present in the area.<\/p>\n

Reinstall the air filter<\/a>. On the filter, there is a foam wrap that you need to install on the\u00a0filter. With these air filters, we\u00a0do not recommend using any type of\u00a0compressed air to blow these out.\u00a0Tap it gently to remove dust. If it is damaged, replace it with a new one. Same with the\u00a0foam filter on the outside. You can wash these\u00a0with a little Dawn dish soap and some water\u00a0or replace them if necessary. Reinstall the foam on the air filter<\/a>. Make sure that it covers all the paper pleat\u00a0completely.<\/p>\n

Reinstall the air\u00a0filter<\/a>. Put it into the intake first,\u00a0push down, and slide it in. Make sure it\u00a0clips into the air filter housing for\u00a0a proper fit. Reinstall the engine cover. Again, the yellow tabs need to\u00a0be facing unlocked<\/em>, push down,\u00a0and turn clockwise to lock into place.<\/p>\n
