Maintenance instructions vary by model, so depending on your tractor model our instructions may vary slightly. Check your owner\u2019s manual to get instructions specific to your model.<\/p>\n<p>Parking your Cub Cadet on a flat, level surface. Turn the engine off and allow it to cool. Remove the ignition key, and disconnect the spark plug ignition wire to prevent accidental starting.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fh__x4_o87Q\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>To change the deck\u00a0belt on a <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/itemLevelFilterPage.action?keyWordTxt=xt1&amp;codeId=124031&amp;levelNo=%24levelNoSkip&amp;gallery=0&amp;resultPage=12&amp;keyWord=&amp;pageNo=externalhitsort_desc&amp;brandId=\">Cub Cadet XT1<\/a> with a 42-inch stamped steel deck, begin by removing the deck from the mower.<\/p>\n<p>There is an 8-millimeter bolt\u00a0right in the side of the frame. Pull that out, that takes care of\u00a0your belt guard that goes around the engine\u00a0pulley. Once you pull that out, there are 3 cotter pins, one at the front of the deck\u00a0and then you have one on each side of the rear of\u00a0the deck for the left arms.<\/p>\n<p>This model has\u00a0a manual engagement not the electronic engagement. The manual engagement has a cable that runs to the back of the deck and is held on by\u00a0another cotter pin. Once you pull that pin, pull the\u00a0cable, and take the spring off the deck bracket.\u00a0Remove the bolts and pins and remove the deck bracket.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A little tip<\/strong> \u2013 make sure to keep in mind where the\u00a0deck bracket pulls out of the frame. When it\u2019s time to reinstall, the bracket has to go in the same spot, so it doesn&#8217;t hit the engine pulley\u00a0when you put it back on.<\/p>\n<p>With the little butterfly clips, you can\u00a0just gently pull them out. Some are kind\u00a0of tough so you may have to take a pair of needle nose pliers\u00a0to help with these\u00a0but otherwise just pull\u00a0them down and pull them out.<\/p>\n<p>Now with the three butterfly\u00a0clips out, remove the front bracket,\u00a0remove the bracket on the rear of the deck, and if you want you can lift the deck up all the way to get the arms out\u00a0of the way. Remove the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/PD\/3154074\/Cub-Cadet-Parts-Belt:Deck:50-Mtd-OCC-754-04077\">deck belt<\/a> off the engine pulley on the front. Pull the deck out so you can\u00a0access the clip. The clip goes through the\u00a0cable on the front of the PTO.<\/p>\n<p>When pulling the PTO cable out you&#8217;ll notice once\u00a0you get the cable out there&#8217;s a little notch. Pull the cable out\u00a0away from the deck and then\u00a0you&#8217;ll be able to slide the cable right out the little notch on the side. That takes the PTO cable off, the end of\u00a0the cable is just a spring that connects into the bracket\u00a0that holds the idler pulley.<\/p>\n<p>Now you can slide the deck out and place it on the ground to continue working. Take the belt covers off the deck,\u00a0you\u2019ll need the 8-millimeter socket again. Once the two covers are off, take off one of the idler pulleys\u00a0to access the belt past the belt guide. You\u2019ll need a 14-millimeter socket.<\/p>\n<p>There is a nut on the bottom\u00a0side. Use a 14-millimeter wrench\u00a0and hold the nut on the bottom side just so you can get the pulley loose. Then replace the <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/PD\/3154074\/Cub-Cadet-Parts-Belt:Deck:50-Mtd-OCC-754-04077\">deck belt<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If you ever\u00a0need the deck belt directions, they are inside\u00a0your owner&#8217;s manual. With this model, the <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/PD\/3154074\/Cub-Cadet-Parts-Belt:Deck:50-Mtd-OCC-754-04077\">belt <\/a>goes from spindle to spindle on the back\u00a0and then loop it around the spindle and on the back side of the idler pulley, and around to the front. Make sure you get\u00a0the belt inside the belt guides.<\/p>\n<p>Tighten down both the idler pulleys and put the covers back\u00a0on. Once the covers are installed,\u00a0put the deck\u00a0back on the tractor. Put the PTO Engagement spring back on the deck idler arm.\u00a0Push the arm out, push the spring through, and put the cable back in the deck holder. Once\u00a0the cable is back in, put the clip back in.<\/p>\n<p>Once the cable is reattached, put the <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/PD\/3154074\/Cub-Cadet-Parts-Belt:Deck:50-Mtd-OCC-754-04077\">belt back<\/a> on the front of the deck and reattach the\u00a0belt guide. Keep the belt in place\u00a0while you hook up the rest of the deck. To reinstall the deck, attach the rear arms\u00a0first, attach it to\u00a0the shell that comes out of the deck shell. It&#8217;s going to go through the hole in the bracket. Put the clip back on and attach the other side of the deck.<\/p>\n<p>Make sure the <a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/PD\/3154074\/Cub-Cadet-Parts-Belt:Deck:50-Mtd-OCC-754-04077\">belt <\/a>stayed around the engine\u00a0pulley and reattach the arm in the front.
