Cub Cadet\u2019s PRO Z 900 Series<\/a> features commercial zero turn riders engineered to dominate steep hills up to 25 degrees. These dual wheeled units are the ultimate mowing solution for municipalities and properties with varying terrain.<\/p>\n

The Cub Cadet 972 SDL<\/a> has a lot of similarities\u00a0between the 972 S to the 972 SD and however there are a few differences as well. The similarities are in the engine, the deck\u00a0construction, the frame construction, the air ride\u00a0seat, those are all the same, but the differences\u00a0are what make the 972 SDL<\/a> unique.<\/p>\n

There are wheel weights in the front wheels, there is about 50 pounds of weight in each\u00a0one of the front wheels giving you 100 pounds\u00a0of weight. The back tires are 25 x 9 \u00bd-inches wide. This machine is known for the dually a lot\u00a0of people call it, two tires on each\u00a0side giving you 19 inches of total rubber on the\u00a0ground to give you as much traction as possible.<\/p>\n

When you combine the dual wheel tire in the back\u00a0along with the wheel weights in the front, it gives\u00a0the machine a 25-degree slope rating. To give\u00a0you an idea, the lap bar models along with every\u00a0other model out there only has a 15-degree\u00a0slope rating. The S Series single wheeled unit\u00a0has a 20-degree slope rating.<\/p>\n

There is one other\u00a0key difference in the dually that is not seen,\u00a0and that is in the transmission. The dually unit still has the\u00a0same 16 cc transmission that the 900 Series has\u00a0however Cub Cadet upgraded the bearing on the axle\u00a0shaft to a much heavier, more robust setting so\u00a0it can take the load of the extra tires, the extra\u00a0weight, and the extra slope capabilities.<\/p>\n

The other\u00a0standard options on the SD <\/a>and SDL <\/a>are in the\u00a0operator platform. There is no electric\u00a0lift on the deck and the\u00a0reason Cub Cadet puts that on at standard\u00a0is a lot of municipalities are buying this unit\u00a0and they’re asking for it.<\/p>\n

When sitting on the units<\/a>,\u00a0there are also some unique features\u00a0that are different between the SD\u00a0<\/a>and the SDL<\/a>. The S and L in\u00a0the nomenclature stand for self-leveling.\u00a0\u00a0The self-leveling works by a latch that is\u00a0underneath where the operator platform is. When locked in, it is not going to move but as\u00a0soon as you switch the lever over the seat is\u00a0going to swivel with you. The seat will swivel up\u00a0to 15 degrees so if you’re on a 15 degree slope\u00a0it’s like you’re sitting on a flat level surface.<\/p>\n

That is really going to help those customers\u00a0that are mowing reservoirs and dams all day\u00a0long and they’re not having to pinch their back,\u00a0they’re able to let that seat swivel so they’re\u00a0nice and comfortable all day.<\/p>\n

There is also a\u00a0light package that is standard on the SDL that is\u00a0not standard on the SD<\/a>. There is an amber beacon light on the back of the SDL <\/a>you can easily flip on with the switch that is\u00a0right by the power deck lift as well as a full\u00a0light kit that shines out on the front. There are also lights in the frame to shine out\u00a0onto the deck and the reason that Cub incorporated all of\u00a0those lights in the SDL <\/a>is this machine is being\u00a0used along roadsides so adding this emergency\u00a0beacon as well as those lights is really going to\u00a0help the visibility for the operator on the unit.<\/p>\n
