Before performing any maintenance on your Cub Cadet XT1<\/a>\u00a0tractor, refer to your owner\u2019s manual for recommended maintenance and safety information. Maintenance instructions vary by model, so depending on your tractor model our instructions may vary slightly. Check your owner\u2019s manual to get instructions specific to your model.<\/p>\n

Parking your Cub Cadet<\/a> on a flat, level surface. Turn the engine off and allow it to cool. Remove the ignition key, disconnect the spark plug ignition wire to prevent accidental starting, and engage the parking brake.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s how to change the rear tire\u00a0on your Cub Cadet XT1 Tractor.<\/h2>\n

For this project start by taking the plastic cap off the rear tire.\u00a0\u00a0You can use a small screwdriver to do this, or a similar tool to place right behind the plastic cap and pop it off.<\/p>\n

With the plastic caps, a lot of times they’re\u00a0a one-time use only, so once you pop them off the\u00a0inside of the cap will break or come loose\u00a0so when you put them back on the tires they may not be\u00a0as tight as they once were. You can get\u00a0these at one of our six Weingartz locations, or online.<\/p>\n

Once you get the plastic cap off\u00a0on the inside of the tire, there is a single bolt,\u00a0it\u2019s a 13 millimeter. Take that bolt out. That bolt is going\u00a0to come out with a bigger washer\u00a0and the single washer that’s on the nut.<\/p>\n

Then the rear tire simply slides off the axle. There is a plastic spacer that goes in-between the tire\u00a0and axle. A little piece of advice \u2013 if the plastic spacer ever falls off, you want the starred side facing towards\u00a0the transmission, spacer side away.<\/p>\n

Another little piece of advice \u2013 once you get the tire off, you may notice that it\u00a0started to create a little bit of rust on the\u00a0shaft. Clean a little bit of rust off and use\u00a0a little bit of anti-seize, not a real thick\u00a0amount, just a little bit right on the shaft and then just wipe it around the shaft, get\u00a0all the way around. This is not mandatory, but we highly recommend it, especially in the\u00a0future when trying to get that tire back off.<\/p>\n

To put the rear tire back on, the valve stem side should face away from\u00a0the tractor or face towards the outside. When putting the\u00a0tire back on, the rim has an oval shape to it, and you want\u00a0that to line up with the axle shaft. If you look\u00a0at the axle shaft, it has that same shape.<\/p>\n

Push your rim and tire assembly\u00a0all the way until it stops. Get your big washer and your bolt. We recommend putting\u00a0a little bit of blue Loctite on your bolt\u00a0just to keep it in place for you. Put\u00a0the big washer on the bolt and thread it in by hand. Once you get a couple threads on it,\u00a0hit it with the impact to tighten it down.<\/p>\n

Then reinstall the plastic cap.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s how to change the front tire\u00a0on your Cub Cadet XT1 Tractor.<\/h2>\n

There is a plastic cover\u00a0that’s on the very front of the tire. Use a small\u00a0flathead screwdriver to pry that off. Again, a lot of these plastic caps are maybe a one-time use. Inspect the cover once you get it off, if it\u2019s damaged you can get a new one from Weingartz.<\/p>\n

Once you have that plastic cover off there\u2019s a\u00a0cotter pin that needs to be removed. Use a pair of needle\u00a0nose pliers to bend the cotter pin straight\u00a0so you can remove it and get it back through the axle. There is a metal washer behind the cotter pin, remove that, and the tire should slide right off.<\/p>\n

Inside the tire there\u00a0are plastic bushings. One thing you want to inspect while you\u00a0have the tire off are those\u00a0plastic bushings, check for wear and replace if necessary.\u00a0If you do need parts you can get them at one of\u00a0our six Weingartz locations or at weingartz.com.<\/p>\n

To reinstall the tire and wheel assembly,\u00a0make sure the valve stem faces towards the outside. There’s a shoulder\u00a0side towards the inside, you want the\u00a0shoulder side towards the inside of the\u00a0mower.<\/p>\n

To reinstall the tire,\u00a0on the metal\u00a0washer there are little metal tabs that stick out and those should face away from the mower. The flat side of the washer should face towards the tire.<\/p>\n

To reinstall a new cotter pin, just slide it all the way through\u00a0the axle, take your needle nose and bend\u00a0the cotter pin back over.<\/p>\n

Reinstall the plastic cover, just push it\u00a0straight on until it clicks.<\/p>\n
