If you\u2019re handy and have an available afternoon, you can perform this maintenance yourself. Here are some tips to get you started:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Contact us or\u00a0or stop by one of our\u00a0store\u00a0locations for\u00a0expert advice on the proper replacement parts for your \u00a0two-cycle handheld equipment. <a href=\"https:\/\/dpnpkc5d7tozg-develop-sr3snxi.us-3.tst.site\/parts-lookup\">Parts <\/a>typically include a spark plug, air filter, and fuel filter (all equipment) and sometimes\u00a0trimmer line, edger blades, or a new chain (depending on what type of machine you are working on).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Clean the cooling fins of your two-cycle engine. This is done with a brush or lightly-regulated air source from an air compressor.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Next, empty any leftover fuel into an approved container.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Install a new fuel filter and replace the old fuel with a high-quality, two-stroke engine oil mix (ratio of 50:1) using a mid-grade unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 89 (<a href=\"https:\/\/weingartz.com\/expert-advice\/2011\/03\/how-to-make-a-501-oil-and-gas-mixture\/\">click here for more on mixing oil and fuel<\/a>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Add a fuel stabilizer to the fuel mix if the fuel is going to be left in the fuel tank for over 30 days between uses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Replace the spark plug and air filter.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Remember: Before each\u00a0use, you should visually inspect all cables for frays and check shields or deflectors and any safety devices for damage, replacing if applicable.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>For <a href=\"https:\/\/dpnpkc5d7tozg-develop-sr3snxi.us-3.tst.site\/C\/124025\/Trimmers-and-Brushcutters\">handheld trimmers<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/dpnpkc5d7tozg-develop-sr3snxi.us-3.tst.site\/C\/123986\/Edgers\">stick edgers<\/a>, replace the trimmer line in the head or the blade; this is\u00a0also a good time to check the lower gear box for the proper amount of grease.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On <a href=\"https:\/\/dpnpkc5d7tozg-develop-sr3snxi.us-3.tst.site\/C\/123974\/Leaf-Blowers\">blowers<\/a>, check the end of the blower tube for wear.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>For <a href=\"https:\/\/dpnpkc5d7tozg-develop-sr3snxi.us-3.tst.site\/C\/123979\/Chainsaws\">chainsaws<\/a>, check the anti-vibration system, which includes a number of rubber buffers for splits or damage.\u00a0Check the chain brake, then remove the sprocket side cover to inspect the chain sprocket.\u00a0Replace the sprocket if there are wear marks deeper than approx 0.02\u201d \u2014 a good rule of thumb is to replace the sprocket after you have replaced the chain twice.\u00a0At this time, you&#8217;ll\u00a0also want to clean and grease the chain sprocket bearing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Next, check the chain catcher, which is often overlooked.\u00a0Check the chain and have it re-sharpened or replaced.
